from the god table to hell

Level 4 started just as planned. My table was so easy to run over and by half way though the level I was up to 25k. Unfortunately not all good thing last. Our table broke and I got sent away.

On my new table I wasnt so happy to see a few familiar faces. Three of the first four hands were 3bet, and the battle was on. At the 2nd break I'm sitting at 19000 chips and hoping to get moved to one of those juice tables I see behind me.

first break of venetian

I sat down to a great table. I soon realized that 2 seats to my left was a player taking every hand t the flop. Goal: Play as many pots with him as possibe. For whatever reason he started respecting my bets, and I started abusing the tablw playing as many hands possible. At level 3 I have 16000 chips and control of the table.

Interesting hands from these levels:

Two players limp in early pos, I open 97o from the cutoff and we go 4 way to the flop. Flop comes 832 and the callingstation fish minbets. I call for runnerz, and the turn comes a 6. He minbets again and all call. The river is a 10 giving me the nuts. Fish bets 300 and I raise to 2000 hoping he had somthing. He folded.

I open AJo over ep limp and he calls. Flop comes Q32 and we both check. Turn and river are both 6s and I call his 2 bets down. He gets upset and open mucks so I dont even showdown my ace high. thankyou

Play has started so back to the table.

lets start the madness

Today is the begining of what weill be an awesome summer. Brandon, Derek and I got up early and headed to the Rio. I had to grab a lockbox and wanted to check out the Amazon room. The amount of work they did to change it into the poker destination of the year is amazing. ESPNs set was all built, and it is going to be fun playing on it later this month. I decided to play the $550 deepstacked event at the Venetian today, instead of the $5k mixed, to get a warmup in before tomorrows event. First place might break $100k, so it is worth it anyway.

The crowds for the $5000 mixed holdem event were much bigger then I guessed. At 10am the line was already a few hundred people long, so I expect tomorrows $1500 WSOP nlhe event to be massive. I wouldnt be supprised to see 3000 players tomorrow.

Play starts in a bit and I'll keep you posted

drinkin in denver

We left for vegas at 2am today. After 14 hours in the car, we decided to take a little break from the rode in Denver. They have a cool outdoor mall area near downtown, and we spent some time looking around. Eventually, like all good drunks do, we found our way to a bar and grabbed some drinks. I just finished my first Fat Tire, and it lives up to it's name. If you have never had one, it's a must for every good drinker.

We are going to head out of denver around 8pm and head for the Grand Canyon to check it out. Going to catch the sunrise there and be in Vegas by 10am.

whats up for the summer

This summer I'll be in Vegas with every other true poker player, spending most of my time at the Rio winning bracelets. I'm going to keep this entertaining by giving updates from floor via my phone. I'll grab pictures or video if I can find anything entertaining.

I'll highlight the event I'm in every day and keep you guys up to date with all the news from my table. If you guys have any requests or ideas send me a shout and I'll see what I can do. The first event I'm going to play is a WSOP warmup at the Venetian. It's a $530 deepstack event, and I think will give me good warm up for any live rust that's collected since March.

Event #3 $1,500 NLHE is the first event WSOP event I'm going to play, and it's going to be exciting.

planned wsop events

Hey guys, the WSOP is almost here. Below are a list of events that I plan to play. I may change my plans, but these are the events I'm looking at right now. Events tagged with *** mean that I really want to play those events. I will play the noon holdem events those days extra aggressively to either build a big stack, or bust and be allowed into the 5pm event. Also, if I find myself short near the end of the day, I will try to make extra aggressive play to either double or bust.

old computer is back home

My old computer is back and fixed, so I've retired my temp computer for now. I've spent some time trying to move files from that computer, but have't finished completely. Currently my PokerTracker database is still on my vista computer, and that will take some time to transfer over.

In the last week my friend and I have been working on improving our winrates. I have a database I bought from a 2+2 poster last year, and we spend a few days reviewing the differences from his play, my play, and my friends play. We were able to find a lot of small things, and we both took a a few bits and pieces to put into our games.

I found that my biggest leak is my play of medium hands (AT, KJ, QT). As a group, I was actually losing money every time I saw a flop with them. A made a few simple adjustments, and it's been going extremely well since:

- I adjusted my opening range to about 14% of hands from UTG, and up to 40% of hands from the button. This works out to about 26VPIP and 21PFR, and allows me to play more of those medium hands from in position, instead of out of position.

- I worked on losing less with my hands when I'm behind. I've done this by continuation betting less on bad flops, and less verses players who call to lightly.

- On the flipside, I've worked on getting more value from my medium strength hands when I'm pretty sure I'm ahead. To do this, I also need to not stack off in bad spots, which leads me to...

- Playing with my head and focusing on the game more. I no longer am making bad bluffs, and I'm folding hands in spots where I can't be ahead, and calling more often when I'm likely getting bluffed. This seems like common sense, but it's amazing how much better my play is today then just a week ago.

I'll put up some graphs when I have a bigger sample of my play.
